Work with international reach.
Interns contribute to JIJ’s legal reports, policy papers, UN oral statements, international advocacy campaigns, social media content, videos, and visual communications—supporting work connected to the United Nations, the ICC, the ICJ, and other international mechanisms of justice and accountability.
Along the way, interns draft statements for the United Nations that are delivered on international platforms, contribute directly to JIJ’s official reports, legal submissions, and institutional publications, and conduct substantive legal and policy analysis on the Institute’s core areas of work. Through this hands-on experience, they build practical skills, strengthen their professional portfolios, expand their international networks, and gain experience that can set them apart when applying to graduate programs, law school, international organizations, nonprofits, government positions, and careers in media and communications.

Intern Story
Andrea’s Story: From New York to International Advocacy
– Andrea, JIJ intern from New York“I came to JIJ from New York wanting to do more than just learn about international law in a classroom. I wanted to understand how it could be used to address real human rights crises.
During my internship, I worked on research examining the treatment of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and the international legal framework surrounding hostage-taking and torture. I helped research survivor testimonies, analyze international law, and contribute to materials supporting JIJ’s international advocacy.
What surprised me most was the level of responsibility I was given. I wasn’t just observing—I was contributing to work addressing one of the most urgent human rights issues of our time.
I returned to New York with stronger research and advocacy skills, a deeper understanding of international law, and something even more valuable: the experience of knowing that my work could contribute to a much larger fight for justice and accountability.
My internship at JIJ didn’t just strengthen my résumé. It changed the way I see my future—and the kind of impact I want to make.”
At JIJ, an internship is more than experience for your résumé. It’s an opportunity to discover what you’re capable of—and put your skills to work on issues that matter.
